What would happen if more Haitian American superstars and celebrities put the spotlight on Haiti’s strength and beauty more often. Some go out of their ways to show Haiti’s poverty simply to show how far they have come. If you are Haitian American, what do you say when people from other parts of the world ask you about Haiti? The richness of Ayiti is not just in its triumphant history, but also the profound symbolism of its many historic sites. Standing high is the World Wonder Citadelle Laferriere, which symbolizes Haiti’s power and independence in the world. Did you know it’s the Eighth of the World Wonders? It’s also known as Citadelle Henri? Did you also know it’s the largest fortress in the Americas? Jason Derulo showing so much history in Colors’ video. The drone zoom to Citadelle Laferriere as one can see why it’s essential to Haiti’s security. The talented Haitian American singer, songwriter, dancer displays his deep love for Haiti.

You see all the “Colors” before the first verse ends, which prepare the viewer for a catchy hook — “Look how far we’ve come/ now now now now/ there’s beauty in the unity”. In the center of the hook sits the Grammy Award winning Haitian American superstar, Wyclef Jean playing his guitar. There are limitless ways to share Haiti with the world. Watching this video, it should be the dream of every Haitian American to visit Citadel Laferriere. Haiti is not that big, they say, but that “small island” is one of the biggest countries in the Caribbean. “I’m ready. I’m ready. We still got a new way”. Those lines are for those who still believe in building not just Haiti’s image, but its much needed positive structural changes.

This music and its visuals could not have come at a better time when the world is starving to connect its people so they can share cultures. Sharing “Colors” is not the only thing Jason is encouraging with this great song. He is also sharing positive energy and culture. Since the song’s imagery honor all flags, it’s safe to say that the video is going to reach a billion views on YouTube, which will not be the first time Mr. Derulo accomplish such a thing. The song should be played in all World Music Festivals. “Hands Up For Colors” means up your flag up or simply wave your flag. That’s the best time you can someone’s true color. When it comes to “represent your country”; raise or waive your flag. He ends the song with “Show Your True Color”, the director of photography zooms out the “Colors” (flags), follows by also zooming out Citadelle Laferriere from the top of the tall 3,000 ft. mountainous monument.
