Oz’mosis has more titles to his name than you would likely find in your favorite Haitian celebrity’s IG and FB biography—actor, artist, blogger, activist, writer, producer, director, rapper, songwriter and ranseur.
Oz’mosis has transition between so many different creative roles thanks to his background and the different things he assessed that our community lack. Oz is not the type of MC who make music just for the sake of it; his music has a purpose and he always wants to be in control of the narrative.
The evolution of Creole hip-hop has led many to believe that rap is not lyrical any more. You hear it enough that those who are not part of the culture believe it. Everything about the industry has become so gimmicky.
With his latest release, “Kiyes Mwen Ye”, Oz’mosis dare take us on a lyrical journey into his current state of mind. He begun the record by jokingly asking if he should reintroduce himself as if he needed any type of introduction. Considered by many to be a pioneer of “Rap State”, Oz has been “doing it” for years alongside his partner Sly and together as Sky’z Da Limit they released two critically acclaimed albums.
On this record, Oz’mosis, one of the more technical writers within the creole hip-hop industry, delivers extended metaphors to describe his abilities as an artist. He compares himself to greats like Kanye West, W.EB Dubois, Marcus Garvey, Malcom X, Martin Luther King, Lebron James and others.
Throughout verses, Oz’mosis talks about the ills of our society and what have deterred some people from being who they are. He quips that some of those who have the most to say are some of the most irrelevant people. Those who are quick to criticize the progress of someone else without having evaluated their own circumstances. He points to the fact that Jesus was criticized yet who are you to feel you should be omitted from that. He suggests that you should be numb to it so you can focus on your own growth and not let the criticism deter you from your journey.
Oz’s dexterity, skills and creativity are fully on display throughout the record and most deserving of a video to bring the record to full circle.
