Levans P. Jean-Pierre, Madman JP, was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY with a strong music background. He was very much influenced musically by his beloved mother Alourdes Jean-Pierre, who was a leading soprano gospel singer. He is also related to Daniel Mayala, the original drummer of the legendary Compas Band, Jazz Des Jeunes.
Madman JP introduced himself to the Haitian Music Industry in 1992 with his debut album Kou Sa Boulé. Nouvel Jenerasyon Records released Kou Sa Boule. The late popular Compas promoter, Joubert Charles, who owned the label, was co-executive producer of the album.
Kou Sa Boulé is a Compas album that stood the test of time. That album was ahead of its time. It had the touches of several veteran Compas producers: Ralph Conde, Yves A Albert, Phillip Pierre, Adeline Thelisma, Wuydens Joseph, and Richard Rouzeau to name a few.
After the release of his first album, Madman JP was supposed to create his own band and launch his career. Unfortunately, once that project hit the market, he was in high demand as a producer. As a result, he ended up spending most of his time in the studio producing and arranging music for upcoming artists and bands. Hence, his dream to perform live took a back seat.
Madman JP has worked with Patricia Juste, Sheila Desgraff, Shirley Desgrottes, Zhea Caze, Arsene Appolon, Skah Shah, Tabou Combo, Fanfan Tibot, Shandel, Ti Crane, and D’Sire 3. Not to mention, numerous Gospel artists in the industry that Madman JP has produced for.
Madman JP decided being a producer was what he was going to make his mark. He invested significant amount of time and money in building his own top of the line recording studio and developing his skills not only as an elite musician, but also a vocal arranger, and an outstanding recording engineer, and a proven composer. The bass is Madman’s main instrument, but he is also an incredible keyboard player.
Madman JP has been in the industry for almost 25 years. But, his secular music influenced started when he was only 10 years old. His love for Compas came after his uncle blessed him with his first Compas album — Bossa Combo “Racine“. Ironically, 12 years later, he found himself in the studio coaching Raymond Cajuste, the iconic singer of Bossa Combo.
Thus far, Madman JP has released six studio albums: Kou Sa Boule in 1992, Badboy in 1996, Gotta Let Her Go in 2001, Insanity in 2005, Tears Of Love in 2012, and 2 Know Love is 2 Know You in 2025. He is currently in the studio working on a joint project with talented pianist producer, Ms. Gina Rouzeau. As Madman describes it, it will be “feel good” music and it should be out very soon.
